The most important thing to do before booking trips for you alone is to plan. You don't have the comfort of friendly advice, nor the option of shared resources should something go wrong, so thorough preparation is vital. Traveling alone has many benefits and can be a richly rewarding pastime. You get to decide where to visit, when to sleep, what to eat; you are master of your own experiences, something that is respected and valued among your peers. When traveling to a foreign country, one of the biggest worries is "is the food safe to eat or will it make me ill?" The infamous effects of consuming the local food and drinking water abroad have acquired many names: Montezuma's Revenge (Mexico), The Pharaoh's Curse (Egypt), etc. The most frequent cause, by far, is poor food hygiene and contaminated water. You should prepare yourself for all possibilities if you are to stay clear of these effects altogether.
